Canada sustains strong international trade performance

Canada’s Minister for International Trade David Emerson released on June 8 the Annual Report on Canada’s State of Trade for 2006. In 2005 Canada exported a record-breaking $516 billion in goods and services and foreign direct investment in Canada increased by more than 9 %.

Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) is a trade show and conference in Stavanger held in alternate years to Offshore Europe (Aberdeen). The show attracts some 33 000 industry professionals, encompassing oil and energy companies, suppliers, service industry and government. Over 20 Canadian companies and organisations will be exhibiting at this year's ONS.

This marks the 7th year that Accenture has examined the global landscape of government service delivery. In its report entitled "Leadership in Customer Service: Building the Trust", Canada, termed a "Trendsetter", is an international leader in eGovernment for the 7th consecutive year.

Canada hosted the first bilateral Northern Dialogue between Canada and Norway on May 10-11, 2006. This event brought researchers and policy-makers to Ottawa for a two-day symposium on the High North.

During the week of May 22-28, the Embassy of Canada, The Norwegian Cancer Society, Chess Communications and The Norwegian Coastal Express distributed Canada’s Sweet Gift to Norway to Norwegians. The week contained a series of “pancake and maple syrup” events along the entire coast of Norway from Bergen to Kirkenes.
